On April 20, 2017, inspired by the EarthPLAY initiative, Forest Formulas was prototyped with the grade sevens of Willow Park School.
The task of exploring the math of nature was introduced
Groups were provided with a calculator, geometry set, string and a clipboard holding an "evidence of understanding" sheet
To take on six math tasks designed to explore nature
They had to develop their own strategies
Work with the tools to the the best of their abilities
And once done the six tasks they had to solve a puzzle to discover the Forest Formula!
Even when there were misunderstandings, amazing things were created.
